| Poor software kills this product. Win7 x64 + Wizcom = NO | 2010-01-20 | 1 / 5 |

Quicklinks (wizcom Desktop) program is STUPID--it will assume by default that it is assigned to com port 1. You have to MANUALLY set it to whatever port you've been assigned once connected through USB/infrared.
Unfortunately, there seems to be an issue with the autorun manager (off CD) which you use to load dictionaries... it never detects my pen--com port and baud rates match.
I've tried using the CD software, and I've tried using the software on the site, which appears to be more recent. I'm running win7 x64, used Vista x64/x86 driver, and the pen was detected initially in the QuickLinks program. However, ANYTHING beyond initially starting up is a no-go. When you try to add components, it searches for the pen and finds nothing. The fact that the software can initially detect the pen when the port/baud rates match lead me to believe the software drivers aren't compatible with win7 (x64 at least). It's impossible to load dictionaries on the pen--the download exe's or CD versions--so this device is absolutely useless to me.
I spent about 3 hours with this device, and I've gone through the instructions indepth. I don't believe there's anything I'm missing. Some of their other devices have Win7 certified drivers--the quiktionary/superpen products do not.
Wizcom gets horrible reviews when it comes to customer support, so I'm not even going to bother contacting them. I'm offloading this pile of junk, and I wish you guys better luck. If this device had come with dictionaries pre-installed, I'd have kept it. This product is an absolute disaster in pretty packaging... and without initial software setup is is nothing but a fancy paper-weight. Take my advice and stay away from anything Wizcom. |

| I read some of the reviews before I buy the pen and I don't understand why some reviewers don't like it! It is a great idea and works in a good speed and the program installation is quite ok. The scan errors are very low provided good printing. You can download any of the available dictionaries easily. The English pronunciation is very good. I am a computer engineer and I cannot see that this product is difficult to use or anything like these negative reviews. I only need a Dutch->Enlish dictionary which is not available and I hope they will add it soon. I think the price is a little bit high but I bought it used. I think it is an important addition for any researcher who reads in a foreign language.. |

This software of the pen is terrible! I grew up with computers and software, but this is just terrible. The pen seems not to have the menues, that the software asks for. I tried hours, even another PC, but I was not able to install the dictinoaries to the pen, because the software could not connect to the pen. I am very angry now, and I had to return the pen. I am now looking for a pen from another brand.
I had read the other comments before, about the bad software, but I thougt, I can handle that - I could not! |
