Listen to your favorite CDs, MP3s, audiocassettes, and radio programs while away from home with the Coby MP-CD450 portable stereo system. A great fit for folks who want an affordable stereo for tailgaters or outdoor parties, the system is built around its top-loading CD player, which plays traditional audio CDs and CD-R/RWs along with MP3s recorded on CD. The device gives listeners access to more of their digital music library while also cutting down on CD cargo for road trips (the average CD-R holds 10 hours of compressed MP3 music). The CD player also boasts search and repeat (one or all) functions, along with a backlit LED display that details track and artist information.

To complement the CD player, Coby included both an auto-stop cassette deck and an analog AM/FM tuner. The deck's two-way recording (CD and radio) sounds particularly good thanks to the one-touch automatic level control, which ensures consistent results regardless of the source. Meanwhile, the AM/FM radio offers an alternative for folks who enjoy talk programming and DJ playlists.

The feature set concludes with a pair of 4-inch wide-range speakers (2 watts x 2), which produce a solid overall sound. Though not powerful, the speakers do the job, especially considering the system's affordable price. The MP-CD450 also includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a carrying handle, and runs on eight D-size batteries or AC power.

Does the Job2010-02-103 / 5
It is becoming increasingly difficult to find portable CD players, with speakers, that also play MP3 CDs. This product fit the bill perfectly. The audio quality is good, the sound is clear, and the MP3 CD starts up reasonably fast.

The major gripe is that they player does not save your position in CD or MP3 CD playback when you turn it off. That's a major pain, especially if you have a long list of tracks.

Another gripe I have is with navigation through the CD. If your MP3 CD has many tracks (I have one with 134), then finding the chapter you want to start at, if not early on, is going to take time. Quickly entering a track somehow would have been better, maybe via use of arrow keys that increase/decrease numbers in hundreds, tens, and ones place.

Overall, this player does the job, but the problem with losing your spot during playback if you power off is a major nuisance.
Want to play MP3s? This is perfect if you use a SD card.2009-11-164 / 5
My MP3 songs need a way to my grandchild's room (I don't use Apple's downloads and I don't own an ipod player). I did use this unit's MP3 disk playback feature but burning a disk is cumbersome. So I simply dragged files to an SD card and inserted the card into the player: PERFECT AND EASY MUSIC EVERY TIME. Why bother burning a cd when using the SD card is so simple? (Sound?: it's fine for a small boombox.)
Coby-MPC450 MP3 Boombox2009-09-211 / 5
It was the most disappointing product I ever bought from and really a piece of "JUNK" I am so glad I didn't throw my old MP3 Boombox away! The CD stopped working after 4 months and now after 8 months the fine tuner jumps all over the place! Just a miserable thing! Paid almost 50 dollars for it!
I would like to rate this with a "NO" star instead of a one star but they didn't have a "No" star! Thanks for letting me vent my anger and disappointment I love and hope they get rid of this company!

Hi ,this is by far my best purchase of the Year!....I am so enjoying my Coby Mp3 portable combo...Thankyou
I would not buy it again.2009-08-262 / 5
I bought 1 to use at work, it worked fine, so I bought 1 for use at home. It lasted about a month, then started having problems with it playing cd's & mp3/cds it would not read them. I had to wiggle or remove the powercord.
That work for awhile, then even that would not get it to work. The one I had at work lasted about a
year. Then it would work only with batteries. So I am going to try a different brand this time. I have heard
from too many places that the Coby brand won't read the cd's & mp3/cds. And I need a player that will play
cds, mp3cds, cass, & radio. I play music, or audio books all the time.
